Vidya Balan: Revisiting Vidya Balan's vermillion red wedding sari (2024)

The duo tied the knot in 2012 and decided to keep it a private affair, followed by a grand reception. The wedding was a mix of Punjabi and South Indian traditions and was organised in a temple. The pre-wedding rituals were conducted at the Green Mile Bungalow in Mumbai’s Bandra. Vidya Balan changed her outfit three times during the ceremony and completed her fit with stunning traditional gold jewellery. However, the vermillion red sari grabbed everyone’s attention. Unlike other brides opting for lehengas, Vidya Balan maintained her South Indian tradition of wearing a bridal sari and picked a stunning red sari with a golden border and motifs. The sari also featured detailing around the pallu which exuded a sophisticated appearance. She paired the sari a subtle bright red half-sleeve blouse with a golden border and was glowing on her wedding day with an overall subtle yet glamorous traditional look.

Vidya Balan specifically hired a team of artisans to create ten customized gold jewels, where each of these was hand crafted and had embellishments with traditional Keralian style motifs. She wore the same jewellery set on the big day, where eight of the ten pieces were originally worn by her mother. However, she kept the wedding ring a secret from the paparazzi. On the big day, she was seen wearing two gold necklaces and a long broad gold chain with a round pendant, adding matching earrings, and the traditional Punjabi red choodas.

Vidya Balan opted for Sabyasachi (Mukherjee) ensembles for the wedding and pre-wedding rituals and ordered a total of 18 saris, amongst which two were specifically designed for the wedding ceremony. All the saris were designed in Madras silk which is the actresses’ favourite fabric. These saris were heavy and flashy and were designed according to Tamil traditions, as Vidya Balan wanted a strict Southern end.

Ahead of the D-Day, she stunned in a beautiful yellow South Indian sari coated in Madras silk which featured an intricate inlay of Tamil designs and motifs accentuating Vidya Balan’s features and curves. To provide the perfect contrast, she opted for a red and purple border and looked stunning, with a puffed blouse which gave a refreshing and vintage vibe. She finished off the look with floral design gold jewellery.

The duo never openly accepted or talked about their relationship. They have never discussed their affair in public, but Vidya Balan mentioned that Siddharth is a shy individual and wishes to keep their love story under wraps. The two started seeing each other while working during a film, where friendship turned into love over a period of time and the rest remains history.
