Mr. Lewis had a strong faith, and he was a lifetime and very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, where he was baptized in Christ, confirmed in faith, and united in holy marriage to his wife, Shirley. He was a Sunday School teacher, served as Chairman of the congregation, and served various other roles in the church. He was born May 16, 1931, in Bedford, Virginia, to Eula Belle (Welch), born March 10, 1894, and John Bennett Karnes, born July 8, 1886, both also in Bedford, who preceded him in death. His brothers JB and Ed also preceded him in death. His sister Isabelle Belton survives in Eustis, Florida.
